Sustainability commitments in the forest industry contribute to the achievement of the Agenda 2030 goals in many ways.

The forest industry plays an important role in the implementation of the UN’s sustainable development goals (Agenda 2030, Sustainable Development Goals, SDG), adopted in 2015, both in Finland and globally. The UN sustainable development goals were taken into account in the 2018 update of the forest industry's sustainability commitments. The member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation have also renewed their own sustainability goals based on those of the UN  and defined the goals that are most significant for their business.

The forest industry companies have played an active role both in establishing the Finnish Global Compact network and in the international Global Compact work.

Cooperation with key stakeholders plays an important role in promoting the goals of sustainable development. The forest industry actively participates in the implementation of Agenda 2030 in Finland, among other things by participating in the work done by the Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development  and the National Sustainable Development Monitoring Network. The forest industry’s sustainability commitments are also linked to the Society's Commitment to Sustainable Development.
