Great economic importance

Forest industry is economically important for Finland due to the industry's extensive domestic value chain. In 2018, the forest sector’s turnover totalled approximately EUR 46 billion and the sector generated EUR 12.2 billion of value added.

The extensive domestic value chain is also reflected in tax revenues for society. The forest sector’s total tax revenue is approximately EUR 3.6 billion annually, close to half of which consists of taxes and social security costs paid by employees, and social security costs paid by employers.

In 2018, the forest industry employed about 41,700 people directly. The entire value chain of the forest industry provided employment for almost 100,000 people in Finland in 2018.
